Leducate Explains: Refugees
We are looking for a volunteer to draft an article on Refugees and their legality. We would like to discuss the status of refugees, their rights and who they are.
Some ideas of what to include:
· What is a refugee?
o what are the different types of refugees?
o what is causing the present exodus?
o what rights does a refugee have?
o what is the difference between a migrant, asylum seeker and refugee?
· What support can a refugee gain?
o what is asylum?
o does national sovereignty affect refugees?
o what is the responsibility of governments in the refugee crisis?
· What issues are there of refugee-related xenophobia?
o What are the issues of settlement and assimilation?
It is important to bear in mind that we want our readers to come away with a strong knowledge of who refugees are, the different types, what their rights are, and the social issues of seeking refuge in modern society.
The article should be 500 - 750 words and should be an accessible explanation of the issue, in simple terms for to engage 16-18-year-olds without a legal background.
NOTE: We have found that it is essential for articles of this kind to be written with limited legal terms, and to be clearly defined when they are used, to make them as accessible as possible. We would ask, therefore, to limit complex legal jargon to ensure that the article is easily digestible by the targeted audience.
Remember - The law can be scary, at Leducate we hope to make it as accessible as possible!
