Leducate Explains: Human Rights Act Review
In light of the announcement to the Human Rights Act Review we would like an article explaining what this means.
Some ideas of what to include:
What are human rights? - only a brief into needed given other articles we have on this topic
Why is the Human Rights Act being reviewed?
Why do laws get independent reviews?
What does this mean, what will change?
How often do laws change?
Other notable changes in law e.g our upcoming article on the reform of family law divorce.
It is important to bear in mind that we want our readers to come away with a good idea of what the human rights act is and why governments put independent bodies to review laws. We already have an article explaining human rights for human rights day and various human rights, so these elements do not need to be explained in too much detail.
The article should be ~750 words and should be an accessible explanation of the issue, in simple terms for to engage 16-18-year-olds without a legal background.
NOTE: We have found that it is essential for articles of this kind to be written with limited legal terms, and to be clearly defined when they are used, to make them as accessible as possible. We would ask, therefore, to limit complex legal jargon to ensure that the article is easily digestible by the targeted audience.
Remember - The law can be scary, at Leducate we hope to make it as accessible as possible!
