Leducate Explains: How you can make laws
An article no longer than 1000 words, ideally between 500-750 count, as part of the Leducate Explains series. This is a collection of articles that seek to clearly explain legal principles or terms to the reader level of 16-18-year-olds with no legal knowledge. The information may be relevant to an older age group, but the writing level should keep our target audience in mind.
We have a 'definitions' box for complex legal terms so if there are any you need to include in the article make a note of them and we'll add these as definitions. If you can avoid using complex terms that would be preferable.
The article should focus on the law on how to petition for laws, specifically:
Writing to your MP about an issue
What your MP can do about advocating about an issue to government ministers/parliament
Petitioning to parliament directly, i.e. through a petition with 100,000 signatures
How you can get a law made around a certain topic, for example, Claire’s Law.
Any other point that you feel would be interesting and relevant in this area.
